Back in San Pancho & Ready for the Year Ahead I’ve traded in winter for the San Pancho sun, and it’s good to be back! With another nesting season behind us and a new one ahead, I’m happy to report that everything is set up for the upcoming year on the U.S. nonprofit side. State reports are filed, board members are in place, and taxes are prepped and being submitted. It’s a relief to have those details settled so we can focus on the work ahead. On a personal note, the past two months have been difficult, as I’ve lost four people in my family and friend group. Because of this, I’ve been playing catch-up on emails and messages that weren’t direly urgent. I truly appreciate your patience and understanding. I’ll be getting back to everyone as soon as I can.
A Game-Changer for the Team & A Huge Thank You to Our Donors This month, we’re especially excited about donations earmarked for a trailer for our ATV, thanks to Mike and Johanne Sanders and an Anonymous donor. This is a game-changer for the team.
Last season, we had to carry hundreds of buckets of sand—each weighing nearly 30 lbs—to and from the beach for every nest. It was exhausting because of how physically demanding it was. Now, with the trailer, we’ll be able to load the proper grain-size sand directly onto the ATV and transport it with ease.
During peak hatching season, we sometimes have thousands of hatchlings to release in a single night. Instead of making multiple trips carrying baskets by hand, we’ll be able to load them onto the trailer and move them all at once. This will save us time, energy, and allow us to focus on what matters most—getting the hatchlings safely to the ocean. Stay tuned for pictures next month when it arrives!
A special thank you to our recurring monthly donors, whose ongoing support provides essential stability for our work: Bob Cole, Fay Chan, and Claudia Kroberger.
We also deeply appreciate the generosity of those who have contributed this month: Lynda Gilman, Allyson Orosco, Dia Weil, Martha Tedesco, Mike and Johanne Sanders, and our Anonymous donor.
We’re also preparing for essential nursery repairs as we head into the season. Our yearly termite damage repairs are coming up, and we need to replace all of the nest box floor slats. Additionally, we’ll be purchasing PVC piping to better manage hot spots in the nursery.
We also need: • Nest bags • Nest sticks • Flashlights (both red and regular) • Buckets • Baskets • Tarps • Clipboards • Shovels • Silicone • Fans • Paint • Lanyards & ID Pouches If you’d like to contribute toward these essential repairs or supplies, every little bit helps! Click to donate HERE.
Your generosity keeps our program going, and we now have more ways to support our work: ✅ Amazon Wishlist – We’ve created wish lists on Amazon USA and Amazon Mexico with essential items we need to keep our program running. Check them out: Amazon USA & Amazon Mexico! ✅ Venmo – We now accept Venmo for donations, making it easier than ever to contribute. You can find us at @GrupoEco. Thank you to everyone who helps make this work possible!
Volunteers Needed! Our upcoming season is filling up fast—November is fully booked, and most of October is as well. However, we still need volunteers for the months leading up to that. If you’ve been considering joining us, now is the time!
Volunteers are the heart of our work, and we are so grateful for each and every one of them. This month, we want to extend our appreciation to returning volunteers: Nick, Ulises, Maryel, Odette, Deanna, Hallie, Karen, Elvia, and Steve.
And welcome new volunteers: Adriana Pliego Villanueva (Mexico) and Kevin Abdale (UK).
