Despite the shortage of volunteers, the task of protecting the marine turtle and their nests is moving forward without a hitch. By the end of August, we have recorded 576 nests, 395 placed within the box nursery, 204 nests left on the beach in good locations, and 18 taken by poachers. The first hatchlings have arrived several days early, see image below.
We have three very nice apartments for rent during the months of December through May. The apartments are totally furnished and come with all utilities paid, including high-speed fiber optic internet, and all appliances. They are located in a relatively quiet area of San Pancho. The prices range from $950 to $11,500 a month.
Lights on the beach affect the marine turtles. An excellent way to make your back yard or restaurant look more attractive is by changing your lighting. Remember marine turtles cannot see the color of amber, red, orange or dark yellow. These colors would make your yard more attractive. Also please turn off all outside lights at 10 PM; that would help us and the turtle very much.

Here's exciting news for all our donors; Grupo Ecológico has applied for charity status with the IRS in the USA, and has partnered with an existing US charity, Travler.org. This means that starting now, your donations to Grupo Ecológico can be tax-deductible in the US! We can also offer US corporations and foundations tax exemption on their grants and contributions to Grupo Ecológico. We are waiting for the IRS to approve our own charity status, which may take several months. Weather-wise: August daytime temperatures range in the high 80° to very low 90°, while nighttime temps were in the high-70°. July rainfall was 21.79, for the year, this amount is the lowest amount in seven years. A constant stream of tropical storms, depression and hurricanes are passing below San Pancho. The problem is that we’re not receiving any rain from these tropical systems.
